Resistance To Slavery

Slaves had ways to keep their culture alive even through rough times. Holidays and traditions were a combination of European and African culture. This was called Junkanoo. Jonkanoo represents the cultural and religious variation in the Bahamas. Therefore their culture was the mixing of African Diaspora.

There were also ways that slaves could "escape". There was a route called The Saltwater Underground Railroad. The Saltwater Underground Railroad started in the 1700s and continued throughout the 1800s, including the migration of African, mixed race and native Americans to the islands. The Saltwater Underground Railroad was similar to The Underground Railroad that was lead by Harriet Tubman.
